There is much speculation on DD about the death of inmate Mary Ryan. Was she given the proper treatment at the Prison ... were charges dropped so that they would not be responsible for the high cost of a hospitalization of this woman. Were the arresting officers responsible for not seeking help for her...Was she in the throws of detoxification or was she suffering from an overdose. What is the story?
On DD you have two different scenarios ... one is a story of someone who dies because she isgoing through detoxification and the other is that she is the victim of an overdose from Heroin.
I think that more should have been researched before the put this story up on DD ... Pappa Pilchesky likes the world to think that he is an expert on everything.
So here we go ... Symptoms of Withdrawl/Detoxification:
Withdrawal symptoms may occur if heroin use is reduced or stopped. Withdrawal, in regular abusers, may occur as early as a few hours after the last administration. It may also produce drug craving, restlessness, muscle and bone pain and diarrhea, cold flashes, goose bumps (cold turkey), leg kicking movements and various other physical symptoms. Most heroin detox and withdrawal symptoms peak between 48 and 72 hours after the last dose. Sudden heroin detox, withdrawal, by heavy users can be fatal.

Now I think what really needs to happen here is first ... get the story straight ... she was either going through detoxification or she was a victim of an overdose. I think that she would have been immediately rushed to an ER for treatment had she been exhibiting the signs of overdose ... however given the time frame of detoxification I think that the officers may not have know that she was going to go through this at the time that they charged her. Now I do believe that the prison should have sent her for the necessary treatment ... however it may have been too late in the game for treatment to have worked. But lets lay the blame at the feet ofthe arresting officers and the magistrates who made the decision to arrest her and charge her and then have her incarcerated ... now lets lay the blame at the feet of the prison because they had charges dropped rather than treat her in house.
Is it just me ... or is there something amiss here? Did the arresting officer take the needle and stick it in her vein? Or ... did she make that choice for herself ... because before it ever becomes a disease ... it is a choice. Do I feel bad that this woman died ... Yep I do ... but do I place the blame on the arresting officers ... the magistrate ... and the prison ... no I don't ... I put the blame on Mary herself for making that initial choice to either snort, smoke or inject heroin into her system.
I have had plenty of bad days in my life ... I have had depression ... I have gone through some very hard times ... I know what peer pressure is all about ... but ... in my life I made the right choice ... I have never done an illegal drug ...I'm not saying I'm better than anyone else here ... but what I am saying that I do think that I have made better choices than those who made the choice to partake of illegal drug abuse or legal drug abuse for that fact.
In true DD style Pappa Pilchesky and his merry band of goons need someone to blame other than the person who is truly to blame.
I did not include this thread as it can be viewed at DD.com.
