Are you quite sure that you are not a Dumb Blonde??? How much more tragic could the outcome have been for Sarge's Mom ... according to his post ... she went through hell for 3 and a halfyears and then it killed her! How is that less tragic??? Just wondering DumbBlonde?????? Maybe your name should be ImADumbBlonde!
Sam my dear friend let me tell you this is the state of medicine. My mother was put on an antidepressant, for no medical reason I could think of. Side effects had thought of killing self, fought thoughts of burning down house, warned me loves me but wants to kill me, don't sleep, tie my hands. About 3 emergency room visits, what ever I told them about her history meant nothing started everything over again with meds. One intake interview told me take her home and lock her in, upstairs they will only give her meds. and treat side effects with more offending meds. She had to go in for reasons from morning to 10 hrs. later they had her back on meds. I warned them about. by night totally psychotic. I pulled her out of hospital that evening. It finally killed her after 3 half years of drug induced psychosis ,to a originally mentally healthy woman. Made allot of money from Medicare, 4 ER's and about 7 or 8 hospital visits not from her health but from what their treatment did to her. Sam there is an arrogant attitude they have, and an ignorance of medicine that has nothing to do with you personally. If they give you meds. check out what they are for, if they don't match your problem question them. The fact is they get a backdoor check for some of the things they prescribe. I'll close again by stating it's not who you are but how competent they are.
RE: 15 Jan 08 council meeting Sarge, I'mvery sorry to hear about your mother. You must have gone through a living hell to have watched this happen to someone so close to you. You're not alone, believe me. I know of many circumstances such as yours, the outcome sometimes much more tragic. It's outrageous, and heartbreaking.
Personally, I question physicians about everything, aswe all should. And if they don't like it, or become exasperated by it, tough.

could be Ag ... God knows that they do not believe in the use of Anti-Depressants and well they think there is no benefit to seeking psychiatric help if needed.

Rather ironic, as many of them probably could benefit from the services of a competent mental health care provider.
Just as a counterpoint (and I've mentioned this once before), two members of my family...people close to me...have had severe mental health problems, including suicide attempts. They are both still in my life, largely due in part to the efforts of skilled mental healthcare providers. Were they "cured"? No. Both still struggle to an extent with problems, and probably will continue to struggle for a long time to come. Did they get better over night? No, it took years for both of them. But the bottom line is that they both are still here and are living full lives because they got help and worked with competent doctors. So for every story of failure out there, there are also stories of hope. You will not ever read that at a place like DD, as they only thrive on pointing out problems, real or imaginary. Discussing something that works, something positive, is beyond their capabilities.
