I actually understand what it is that DD poster nobody is trying to say ... and I'm not saying that he is wrong for feeling this way ... I am however going to pin on him the title Hyopcrite ... it amazes me that he is against freedom of speech for a woman who was in her own home ... with a toilet overflowing ... and she cursed at her toilet and now could possibly find herself doing 90 days in jail for this because her window was opened and her neighbors child heard her ...
But ... it's ok for Joe Pilchesky to say what he wants ... when he wants to whomever he wants ... even if it's vile and offensive ... Mr. Moran will defend Joe's right to say it because it's his freedom of speech ... Joe can have an over flwoing toilet mouth ... but you can't curse at your toilet when it's flowing over. I now get how the freedom of speech works!!!
You Mr. Moran get the PD Hypocrite Award .... Congratulations .... oh and by the way ... you think children don't read DD ... well think again!
RE: ACLU: Foul language a right I think it's a sick comment on our society when we find it acceptable to speak like this in front of a twelve-year-old. When we do find it acceptable, I believe we are destroying the values we cherish. Because some have chosen to destroy childhood does not mean others should be forced to do the same. And I don't think it's a defense to say the woman didn't know the child was there. It was wrong and there's no defense for her conduct.
To clarify: just because some children speak this way and some parents allow it doesn't mean it's right. I won't allow my children to speak that way, they are not spoken to that way and as a parent, I decide what language my children will hear in the music, television and whatever else is in my home. It's what parents are supposed to do. It's also my house and yard.
If I chose to raise my child to not use this type of language, shouldn't I have the right to stop someone from speaking in a voice that is clearly heard in my yard and home that features this language? Each person's rights have boundaries and I believe those boundaries end at the property line. My voice should not be offending you in your yard and yours should not offend me in my yard.
I think it's another sick comment that we would consider an off-duty police officer who tries to stop someone from engaging in disorderly conduct to be wrong just because he's a police officer. Maybe if more of us said "enough," values would have meaning again. Surprisingly enough, police officers are friends, neighbors, brothers, sisters, moms, dads and human.
When a police officer puts his life on the line and stops a gunman, the world cheers. When a police officer calls a fellow officer to deal with a woman who is disorderly, he is a criminal?
Without knowing if this is an ongoing, problem behavior, without knowing the officer, without knowing all the facts, we're ready to vindicate the accused and crucify the accuser, primarily because he's a cop.
I wonder how many posters voting for vindication have complained about their neighbors before? I know I've dealt with a lot of neighbor v. neighbor calls. According to what I've read here, I should have ignored them because everyone has a right to say what they want, as loud as they want.
I just don't think that one's gonna fly.

Tell that to the jackass thumping that bass and spewing the filth they refer to as 'music' as I drive down the street. Tell that to the company that sent those trucks through the city showing pictures of aborted fetuses. Tell that to the kids and small children to walk by my house and call each other every filthy name in the book. I have to put up with that freedom of speech? What I would like to do is follow the kids home and give their parents a smack upside the head for their lack of parenting skills.
This woman should have thought twice before she let out that string of expletives, but which one of us hasn't let a "sumbitch" or a "mo-fo" rip at one point or another (especially at an overflowing toilet)? Once she said it and someone called her on it, she should have just shut her trap and be done with it - and she chose not to. That's what got her ass in trouble.
I'm not defending Joe or DD, as I find that site to be vile filth, BUT, this "toilet cursing" lady was completely out of line. There is no way people should have to listen to that kind of language in their neighborhoods, especially children. And really, the punishment fit the crime....the only reason this story is getting so much press is because of the involvement of a commode, which people find humorous (I like a little toilet humor as well)....honestly, all she got was a summary citation...which is about the level of a speeding ticket as far as criminal offenses go. She will not see 90 days in jail, or any jail time for that matter, but the media like to play up the fact that the penalty CAN be UP TO 90 days in jail. She'll likely pay a fine, and have no criminal record to show for it, since its only a summary offense. And although many more vile things are said on Joe's site, at least that has to be voluntarily accessed by someone, and parents do have the option of blocking/monitoring their kids' internet access. But Ms. Herb's tirade could be heard by anyone in earshot, whether they want to hear it or not....I would not appreciate hearing such language, especially since I have young kids who like to play in the yard.
The funny thing is that most posters on DD seem to support Ms. Herb and her "toilet tirade." What I find ironic is that they don't comment on her looks the way they do Sherry Fanucci and Judy Gatelli. That Herb lady, sorry to be blunt, is butt ugly as well as overweight.....yet the DD goons will make "fat" and "ugly" comments towards Sherry Fanucci, who, in my opinion is a good looking woman.

I agree with you on the loud offensive rap music blasters. They should be pulled over and cited.
As for the aborted babies on the trucks. I agree, that was disturbing, but its supposed to be, and serves a very useful purpose in waking people up to the fact that abortion is the brutal murder of a human life.....not a "choice" as some people like to dismiss it as.
As for the kids walking around using foul language....those kids probably have poor adult role models in their lives and learned such behavior at home. Those are the kids with mothers like Dawn Herb. I guarantee her kids will have foul mouths.

It's just a summary offense...the same level as a speeding ticket. She's not going to jail...pretty mcuh no way that happens. The media just like to hype a story.
Accused of cursing at her overflowing toilet and then at a possibly overzealous off-duty cop in October, 31-year-old Dawn Herb, 924 Luzerne St., will be fighting her disorderly conduct citation at a trial in front of Magisterial District Judge Terrence V. Gallagher.
The single mother of four is accused of yelling profanities at her overflowing toilet near an open window, then shouting profanities at an off-duty Scranton police officer who asked her to stop.
Patrolman Patrick Gilman, whos also a neighbor of Ms. Herb, called the Police Department to file a complaint.
Shortly thereafter, Patrolman Gerald Tallo issued Ms. Herb the disorderly conduct citation, a summary offense.

This may sound hypocritical coming from me, but I never read Nobody's postings...he/she is too verbose. Reading his/her postings is like listening to Janet Evans speak.

That's confusing to me Aga. I would have thought you would like Nobody's posts. I think Nobody does a good job. Very articulate and to the point. He often sees things in a different perspective and adds to a post. Nobody is one of the posters I enjoy reading. Maybe a little verbose at times but thoroughness when broadcasting an opinion is not a bad thing, unless you're Janet Evans right?
Shari...I'll officially go on the record as saying that Janet Evans is NOT verbose. In fact, she uses very few words. It's just that the one's she does use take an awful long time to get out. That's very, very annoying. It's as if she's unable to switch out of teacher voice mode. Come on now, even you have to admit that...

She can be long winded. That I admit. But being thorough while explaining issues to the public, I fine refreshing. The rest of council can't wait to end the meeting as soon as possible. I watch the meetings to learn about what's going on. Other than her, I see no answers to questions, no explaination about issues, dissemination of misinformation and rubberstamping of the mayor's agenda. That's why I think "sucks".
