Now that the uniform employee's contracts have been thrown out by the court, lets see what happens next. My guess is that the unions will be scared into accepting a menial sub-par below cost of living pay increase. Look back, I believe for the 12 years under Connors the unions only received 2 very small increases, now for the past 6 years under Doherty, nothing. that makes 2 very small increases in the past 18 years. Does this make anyone wounder why they can't get top quality people to work in a professional position ?????

It's an interesting game of chicken, that's for sure. No one wants to blink first, but now the city is in the driver's position, given that the unions are under more financial pressure as a result of the last court decision.
I say this...Doherty should settle the contracts now, period. He made his point, now it's time to move on.
...Give union members 3% raises (consumate with inflation) on a going-forward basis. ...Cap healthcare costs for the city at the current contribution level. Healthcare is an issue that is far bigger than the FOP, Chris Doherty or Ed Rendell. We need a national solution. ...Allow management to make staffing decisions (no more union insisted "bankers hours" drug squads, etc.).
I know this sounds simplistic, but so be it...it's just time to move on. Enough of the finger pointing and demonizing. City employees don't work in bubbles...I have to abide by management decisions (and I am management myself)...I have to suck it up on healthcare: for 2008, with increased healthcare costs, I am looking at a potential maximum raise of about $200 (for the year)...and if I find those conditions too much to bear, I can always find another job. I suggest that city employees should take a similar tact.

I see there is a 13000.00 raise for the police chief. and policeman who actually do the work have not got a raise in 6 years. Typical adminstration policy. We are loosing good police men in our city because they can no longer afford to work here . They are going else where Dickson city, State Police etc. The only people that suffer from this is the citizens of the city. All these years there was no money now that the city got the award in court the mayor wants to talk. This will be appealed and hope fully the unions will get some well deserved compsation.
