I know this will come as a shock to one and all, but it's not looking like Pilchesky's flyer (you know, the one he said was brought to him by some newly created taxpayers group...cough...Joe himself...cough) was able to sway the election against McGoff. Now things could change, but with about a third of the votes counted it looks like the new city council will look a lot like the old city council.

Oh, and while not required, I'll add who I voted for: McGoff and Piccolino.

To complete the Pilchesky batting average at zero, we have Washo & O'Brien looking like the new majority commissioners, with AJ ("Hey, what's wrong with delivering a baby on a prison floor?") Munchak in the minority.

My votes? O'Brien and I held my nose and voted for Cordaro.

I guess they can attribute it to another election stolen by the all-powerful IBEW (damn, I meant ICN). Wait, I think Anti may have claimed that the IBEW has stolen an election or two...I'll have to check my notes.

Hummmmmmmmmmmmm let's see how old baldy made out with his "political clout"

Retaining Judges
All Judges DD NO Public YES
Corbet and Harhut in particular DD NO Public YES (by a huge margin I might add)

County Commish Race

Washo/O'Brian DD NO Public Yes
Cordaro/Munchak DD YES Public NO
( ya ya I know what you are thinking "wait didn't Joey at first want Cordaro gone?" Yes it sure seemed like it until after the last court thing.....then something changed...what?? Who can say for certain except Joey of course??)

Scranton City Council

CourtrightDD Yes (lukewarm support but I 'll give this one to them) Public Yes

McGoff DD NO Public YES (so sad Shed/Milo/JudyS&G guess all your howling didn't help Roganmuch did it? Nor did having the "genius" of Jan's "spawn" (your words not mine) working for him.)

Scranton School District

Minicozzi DD NO Jury is still out on this one at least according to the last numbers I saw. Paul O'M and Minicozzi still vying for 5th spot with about 465 votes between them. This is with about 54% of the precincts counted.

Wow the overwhelming political influence of DD is just ..just...just ...nothing!!!biggrin

Well they are good to have around IHave ... you see if they are endorsing a candidate ... then the public knows who not to vote for ... so they do serve a very useful purpose!

Good point! They can be a strange "negative" Bellweather indicator, predicting the losers in any election cycle. :)

RE: On Retaining Judges Harhut and Corbett

I was very disappointed to see that the judges across the state were retained. There is talk now about people thinking that 5 years is enough to retain a judge, and I agree. However, the proof will be in the effort of the citizens to change that law; don't leave it up to the legislature. If enough citizens contact their representatives, some of whom are up for re-election next year and persist in demanding a change in the election laws, perhaps it can be introduced. Hopefully, PA Clean Sweep will not drop the ball on this either and lobby for change in this state. We, as citizens, should not drop the ball either.

I think the local race provided a warning shot to our public officials that we are watching and gaining momentum in becoming a different public voice than we might see in the news. Don't relieve the pressure, or this movement will backslide. We now have three very important areas to pay attention to: 1. Scranton City Council; 2. Scranton School Board; and 3. County Commissioners. Let's make these officials hold to their word and tow the line.
All I have to say to this post is how do you figure it serves as a warning to public officials that you are watching and gaining momentum .... you all at DD are a public voice all right ... one that is annoying ... one that nobody hears ... Do you not think that you should have heavily concentrated on the above mentioned offices before the election ... did you ever stop and think if you put more than rumor and innuendo out there and possibly commented strongly on the public records of those you did not want to see re-elected that it would have been a bit more effective ... instead you talked about who was having an affair ... who is fat ... who's children had children out of wedlock ... judged people for what you call mistakes in their personal lives ... when you should have concentrated more on what they did not do while in office and what the candidates that you backed were planning on doing if elected ... nobody cares for your dirty DD politics ... you prove nothing that you say ... but you put it out there for the world to see. You want them to hold to your word ... and tow your line ... or maybe I should change that statement ... you want them to be like Pilchesky and tow his line ... NOT GONNA HAPPEN! Maybe you all should get your $hit together and start doing things right! Just a thought!
Judges were retained ... McGoff won ... Washo and O'Brien are the new majority ... so what is this public voice telling people ... It certainly is not conveying the same message that the DD gang is ... or should I say is trying to!

RE: MINICOZZI NOT TAKING HIS BEATING WELL...

Brace yourself. The word is already in the air that Doherty will run Minicozzi for council in 09 as comp for his humbled showing in the SSD election. By that time, Minicozzi will have made all the right moves in the public's eye to lead a Gatelli, Brazil team into battle against whatever forces the anti-Doherty movement will have to offer up. That's one Brazil too many for my money. Then again, Jamie has the Brazil name a little compromised these days. Minicozzi is crying but he's also letting everyone know he thinks he got screwed by the vote count.
