I love this site. Thanks. I have some concerns about McGoff who is running for Council. he came to my door and was a nice guy. But when I aksed him if he would vote to increase taxes again he said yes. I mean I appreciate his honesty but cmon? I guess it really doesnt matter cause he is a sure winner. Just want to hear your thoughts I mean choices are limited dont you think? But I dont want my taxes any higher.
I have to say that at this point I would be afraid to insert anyone new into the mix, given that we don't know if anyone new might already be under the goons sway, I feel more confident staying the course. The last thing I could stomach would be Janet getting into the majority. Courtright seems like a pleasant guy but hasn't shown any real backbone in my opinion. If Janet were to pick up a vote I feel Courtright might jump on the bandwagon as it would appear like the easier road to him. That would be a disaster. I too want to keep my money in pocket so no I don't want to see my taxes raised. However, I also don't want them not to be raised because of a faulty budget that is unrealistic. I do not trust Janet to do what is right. I trust her to do what she wants for her best interest. She has given ample evidence that her interests far outway the public's interests in my opinion. So I intend to vote for Mr. McGoff. He has already shown great backbone as it was very hard, I am sure, for him to answer you truthfully when you asked about taxes, yet he did!! That's backbone. He told you the truth instead of pandering to what you wanted to hear. So I agree with you... very honest! We need that right now.
Oh and forgive me for being rude. Welcome and glad you like our board. I like it too. :)

Yes i believe he did and probably meant it when he said it, but time changes things. I am sure you may have said things that later after time and events change you had to change your mind about, it happens. I don't believe that this is an issue , at least it's not for me anyway.
Welcome Amos ... glad to see you resolved your IP issues ...
I just want to say that I know that I have changed my mind 5, 6, or more times in one day about different things ...
I often say that I will not go somewhere and not 10 minuets later I am on my way out the door ...
Mr. McGoff probably said that because I'm sure he didn't know if he could subject his family to the apparent critical atmosphere that they would have to endure ... I don't know if that is why he said that ... but he changed his mind ... what is so wrong with that ... I just don't think that is a good reason to deny the man a vote.
I myself prefer someone who gives me the hard answer ... it would be very easy for him to sit/stand there and tell you that he will never increase taxes as so many before him have done ... but then he would have to face the rath of the people speaking at the Podium ... so I think it was quite a feat for him to speak the truth to you ... at least you know with him if you ask a question you will get an honest answer. That in my book is worth more than anything ... it's rare in a politician ... honesty!

That might make sense Lus except if he such an honest guy why did he say he would not run again? I understand that one can change their mind but it was a criteria that Mrs. Gatelli said she was looking for when she appointed him. Yet now she is out banging the drum for Mr. McGoff. I can understand the issues people have with her. Just seems like more political double talk if you ask me. The more I think about this the less likely I am to vote for McGoff. I will probably vote for Rogan and maybe Courtright.
Courtright -- A little too much pandering to the LoD/DD crew, but I think that is somewhat balanced by the fact that I think he does tend to vote his conscience. I will hold my nose and vote for him.
McGoff -- He just doesn't stand out. Who can point to this guy and say "He did __________"? He seems sincerely, is a very bright guy and clearly wants the city to move forward, but I've not seen a lot of performance. Still, he is better than the alternatives, so I'll vote for him. Oh, as for the promise to not run, remember, we are dealing with a politician here.
Piccolino -- A one issue candidate, who seems more into the race for personal than civic reasons. We already have a 'Doherty Sucks' councilmember...why would we want another? Still, I think he's a better choice than Rogan.
Rogan -- He should be running for student government at the University, not Scranton City Council. Put another way, age and experience DO MATTER, especially when you are dealing with someone elses (read - taxpayer) money. Also, I found his anti-immigrant ramblings to be stupid. Two words why illegal immigration isn't a municipal issue: Lou Barletta.

I guess that's an issue for some Amos ... for me personally it is not ... and I really don't think that it was fair for anyone to ask him to not run ... but that is just my opinion.
