Ok now I see where Granma got that idea ... well how about that ... I don't agree ... with the intelligence test yes ... but having to be a property owner ... hell even the renter pays some sort of tax ... the EMS tax ... wage tax ... in a lot of cases I think they are paying a garbage fee ... so no I don't agree that only property owners can vote ...

When evidence is as credible compelling and reliable as this I simply have to believe it. Anything that flows across a lunch counter is solid evidence in my books. Plus if you can get evidence that has floated over a table in a restaurant then that is it!! No trial necessary their goose is cooked! (no pun intended naturally) Now why can't you and the others provide this kind of hard evidence ona regular basis? biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Rumor came across today at the lunch counter in Green Ridge that Courtright is taking McDowell's old job. Is that true? How would he get that job? Is it appointed by the Commissioners? Maywhore? Anybody know?

Depending on the outcome of the rumored John Mellow lawsuit, Mr. McDowell's unfinished term should be given to someone who promises not to run for the job in 2009. That is the custom of state appointments when a row officer resigns or is promoted.

I would basically have no problem with that, however if they don't make that committment that would be no problem either. I always get a little uncomfortable with extra rules being imposed. I believe decisions about elected office are best made at the voting booth. You either win or lose and that's that.

Ok Glen come clean you never seem to have this "no space seen between wordsproblem" and you don't edit to make it clean. Tell! Tell! What am I doing wrong? I clearly am doing something wrong as I am careful to put spaces in while I am typing.

Lucky for Joey that the content on Chumster board can only be imagined at this point. To say there was some very interesting posts on that site would be a gross understatement. I didn't vote for McGoff for that very same reason. I know, a politician that lies, how unusual.

Now if this were DD, I'd have to add a few horrible rumors dressed as facts to my first sentence about McGoff's family/religion/sexuality/preference for cats vs. dogs/nationality/shoe size, etc. Fortunately here I can just keep it simple.

I hear the new tax collector--again,this ispending the outcomeof that rumored lawsuitby John Mellow--will be the result of one of two scenarios...(a) the guy (Walsh?) that was in there before Dougherty just to fritter away the remaining two years, or (b) a woman, probably one with prior elected experience.

Just what I hear. I make no representation of accuracy on this one. In any event, Inow believe the tax collector position (elected)should be abolished. It is a waste of taxpayer money. Just appoint an office manager or give it to an outside agency.

My mantra is 'less government is better government', so I agree that this is something that could be done by an outside agency.
As for a temporary replacement for Tax Collector, while I have no insight as to the name, I do know this: Who ever it is, Pilchesky & Cabal will waste no time in personally slamming them (qualifications or lack thereof). I can see the thread now: "Give me all the Personal (OOps, I mean 'Professional') Dirt on __________________".

I think the "powers that be" should try a little experiment. Leave the position vacant for six months. If there is no change (or an improvement) in morale and work output at the Lackawanna County Collector of Taxes...er, I mean, Single Tax Office...take steps to eliminate the position for 2009.

It CAN be done, and quite easily.
