This land is your land...until the tax sale... or "They're old- we don't need them anymore anyhow." "This tax isn't a tax at all. it's a way to get older folks who are barely making it on Social Security and a small pension to forfeit their houses. First, TeamDoh! arranges for tax increases what will be 94% over three years. Then they arrange for fees and penalties that will, in many cases, eclipse the actual tax bill."
Then they start to advertise crony owned nursing homes as a solution. So more contributors can get paid back....
Or, maybe it's a way to get people (like Joe) to pay their damn taxes - you know - like the rest of us do.
Here's a novel idea - if you don't pay your taxes you don't get the services rendered by the city. Hire your own security, get rid of your own trash, put out your own fire, etc.
Are you kidding? He'll spread his trash in his neighbor's yards, we all know that Jimbo has his back, (so the security is covered) and as far as fires are concerned, the missus picks up a half-keg once a week so he can just put it out his own damned self.
That's a very interesting theory that Crazy Otto has ... I guess his name is truly fitting.
I agree with Art it's simply a way to get people to pay the taxes ... if you can't afford the taxes ... well what should be done ... I guess it's like when I go shopping ... if I want something that I know I can't afford ... I simply do not buy it ... or if I have something I can't afford ... rather than have a nervous breakdown ... well I just get rid of it ... you know put it on the market and sell it ... that way nobody can take it away from me.
And I think the nursing/personal care home idea is a bit far fetched ... but that's just my opinion ... who knows!

It's crazy far fetched. How many available rooms are we talking about? There's probably a waiting list already, not an ICN conspiracy afoot to toss the old timers and fill the nursing homes with them. Damn, I wish I had some of what Otto is smoking..
Don't we all wish we had some of what he's smoking ...

I'm sure this will come as no surprise to anyone, but I think some of what Otto says has merit, furthermore, while y'all are over there surfing, check out Nobody's post on the subject. I can't speak for anyone else, but my taxes are thrown right into my monthly mortgage payment, which I believe is the way alot of people may be paying them. This led me to the same disturbing questions, like who is this administration really targeting with this new policy. There are alot of Seniors in Scranton, living on a fixed income who just got hit, along withalot of othersin Scranton, with a 25% tax increase, that they are going to have a truly rough time handling. Some of you are fortunate to have good jobs, but the Senior Citizen, living on a fixed income, collecting S.S., or the guy stocking shelves at the local supermarket, trying to bust out a living and support his family, well this new policy along with the 25% tax increase is going to absolutely cripple them, and they very well may lose thier homes. Some of those folks could very well be our parents, grandparents, or siblings.
IMO, I would say that at least 50% of your city is compromised of Senior Citizens, and folks who are working just at, or just barely above minimum wage, are we going to stand up and fight for these folks, or just sit by, and one by one, watch them lose thier homes?...Jimbu15.
The hole in Otto's theory is simple; who will pay for the nursing home stays? No one can just place you in a home if you're coherent and able to fend for yourself. There simply aren't enough rooms. Dollars to donuts; I'll bet no senior citizens wind up out of their homes over this, but I bet plenty of guys with jobs, income and websites do.

Art...I did say SOME...not ALL of what Otto said. I'm trying to be peaceable here. I don't understand your thought on the Seniors though, they could barely afford the taxes before, and now with this, how could they not lose thier homes???...Jimbu15.
Nobody's going to lose their home over this. The council basically voted for a law that says if you don't pay your taxes they'll charge you a fee for it. Add those fines to the tally - the people in question won't pay those either.
As it stands now they can take your house for not paying your taxes, there's nothing new - no more teeth added to the mix. Just a bigger bill that the people who aren't paying will continue to not pay.
Everybody's getting their panties in a wad over nothing.
The mayor was given "front money" Art. Remember the front money the Pension manager gave to "save the city"? It had to be paid back. Doherty spend the money and now we pay it back.

I want you bad. I must have you. Sell my house, sell the car, sell the kids, I'm never coming home. XOXOXO
I'm telling you Art, this new chick has you by the short ones. Pretty soon you'll be spelling all your words with a capital "DO" before them and your balls will crawl further north.
I thought it was funny girl ... however Art may be offended ... and then I will expect you to apologize! I wouldn't want Art to be offended. But somehow I don't think he will be ...
