I just got done reading the tasteless posts over there about the loss of the poor child's life in the fire on Acker Ave.
Shame on them. Shame on all of them.
No one knows anything just yet, it's all speculation. It may very well turn out to be the fault of the administration, but to jump to that conclusion is not fair to anyone, including the families affected.
A child is dead and now they have a rallying cry. They mourn that child the same way some NASCAR fans claim they don't like crashes. The poor dead kid is now; a body they can point to and call collateral damage.
Until it's proven, and it will or won't be soon, let the family mourn. Let the rescuers heal, and if need be - let them be the ones to bitch about the administration. There were plenty of photos taken at the scene and lots of radio traffic. This can't be covered up as they allege.
Leave this poor family be. Keep them out of your crazy politics. You'll get your chance to pounce and suck blood, but today is not the day for that. Today is a solemn day due dignity and respect and restraint.
Does anyone here think that the crew at Pilchesky's House-O-Wackos would let a tragedy of this magnitude go by WITHOUT taking the opportunity to somehow implicate Chris Doherty?
Look, if road conditions were a factor in this horrible event, then I fully expect and demand accountability. But let's not make this a public lynching. A child is dead and while the first reaction is always to want some kind of immediate justice (which is what I would want if it were one of my three girls), calmer heads must prevail.
...grieve for the family
...then investigate what happened
...then learn what lessons need to be learned
...and then if someone was negligent...from the Mayor on down...he/she should resign

Why were Dumb and Dumberer over there taking pictures? How many people did that save? How much sooner was the fire put out because of it?
Look, up in the sky! It's a carpenter! It's a lawyer! It's...Photojournalist Man! Fighting for truth, justice, and the Americ...Hey, dickhead, get out of the way! See that hose? Let the firemen do their jobs!
Mocking McCormack, or Doherty, or whoever for making this a photo op is one thing. But before he does, he really should look in the mirror. His presence there served no more purpose than the mayor's. He rubbernecked, plain and simple. He used this event to suit his needs in the same way that he is accusing the mayor of using it to suit his.
Personally, I think Parker and Hayes should lose their jobs over this. Maybe not this fire specifically, although I think there is a bit of blood on their hands, but their comments and actions leading up to and in the aftermath of it are almost as repugnant as that of the old man and Edith Bunker.
At this point, it doesn't matter WHAT happened - they will blame Doherty they will blame Parker - they will blame Vitris - they will blame Eliot - Seitzinger on vacation? blame him too - he's not here to defend himself - McCormick rode on the wrong side of the door - put some blame on him - took a picture of some guy in black suit? blame him just because he was there - helicopters adding more breeze to fuel the flames? slap some blame on them -
No they didn't get to it in time and that is a sad thing, but in the long run it won't matter how stupidly this fire began, just how badly it ended - was it arson? was it electrical? was it an accident? was it the landlord who skimped on that fuel regulator? was it someone smoking while they painted in a closed area? was it some juvenile playing with matches? was it some teenager sneakin' a smoke near the gas meter? was it someone cooking popcorn too long in the microwave? was it Pop cookin' the meth a little too long? was it Mama smokin' and dozin' in the barco-lounger? was it Uncle Daddy flipping his butts out the front window? well have no fear, nosiree - we have someone ELSE we can blame it on
disclaimer: I understand there should have been a better plan for snow removal and I am certainly and in no way implying that Mr. Parker is blameless -
Just what every fire scene needs; two screwheads with a camera getting in the way. Leave the photos to the professionals Joe, you're not that good and rescue crews need the space.
I may be way off here but, the atmosphere at DD seems almost to be happy….giddy…excited? Could it be possible that in their endless search for anything negative to pin on this administration, they are actually happy a terrible tragedy has occurred? I have no idea whether that poor child could have come out of that building if it was the middle of July, 95 degrees with no snow in sight or not, and frankly I don’t think anyone else knows either.I do know that I have a very difficult time believing as those kooks seem to, that anyone in this administration would deliberately put a child at risk.
Could the snow removal have been better?……. Sure it could have been. Are the roads basically any different than they have been any other winter?.... not that I can tell.Every winter it snows, every winter the snow piles up, every winter the roads that are narrow (mine among them) get congested with snow piles, every winter people complain that the snow removal isn’t good, that its never been this bad, that is the “worst” they have ever seen. Are they right? Maybe….. maybe not. My guess is that roads are the same as they are after any other winter storm. DPW could do a better job, the citizens could help more by staying off the roads, companies could help by closing down non-essential businesses thus allowing people to stay off the roads, or we could all just move south for the winter and avoid snow altogether (which I find a very attractive idea). We all could do a better job of helping, not complaining as much, and remembering we do live in a snow state, so as much as we may not like it, it is going to snow.It is also true that as much as it breaks our heart sometimes bad things happen, they are called accidents. This was a horrible accident.Did the amount of snow around delay the response time? Probably...Just as the response time would have delayed if it had occurred <insert anything that slows the fireman down, traffic, other fire calls, ect…ect> Did it change the outcome of the event? I don’t know.I do know, however, to attempt to place the blame for this terrible death on the heads of people who are being paid to plow snow and care for streets is horrible. I do know to attempt to use this tragedy to further a political agenda is monstrous.
My thoughts are with this family and I pray that they can find the strength to get through this horrible time.I also pray for those who would attempt to use this tragedy for their own political agenda to have a change of heart.
I just made the type a bit bigger, my old eyes were having trouble. -Art Art I had to make it a bit bigger ... obviously my eyes are a bit worse and older than your are - Lus
I am sure the families are extremely grateful for the presence and quick action of the two policewomen who were the first at the site. They should be commended for their clear thinking and professionalism.
But heaven forbid if the fire had started while they were walking the beat at the other end of their patrol area. I am sure the zealots from across the hall wouldn't think twice about included them in their Rage Against The Machine, as well as the people or entities whose jobs were not done to their liking. These two women wouldn't be praised as the heroines they are, but would have been accused of patrolling the ritzier end of Acker Avenue instead of where the po and simple folk live. Go ahead and tell me I'm wrong.
