So, I'm sitting here watching Inherit the Wind on TCM. Anyone here ever see it?
Is it me, or is our local loon our equivalent of Matthew Harrison Brady? Loud and blubbery, fire and brimstone, tunnel vision, etc.
Fortunately, it's such a great movie and play that even my inadvertant characterization of the old man into the role does not diminish it. Plus it's kind of cool to see what Col. Potter did between the two world wars.
Anyway, if you all get the chance, check out the movie. It's definately a must see. One of the greatest movies ever. Imagine Pilchesky getting grilled like that during Drummond's final summation. It'll be a thing of beauty, I promise you.
Next week: The Caine Mutiny starring Joe Pilchesky as Commander Queeg. "Ahh, the strawberries. That's where I had the ICN..."
I'm sticking with my comparison of Joe to "Fredo" in the Godfather. "I'm smart..."
Now that I think of it, another pic comes to mind.
Joe thinks he's Charlton Heston in the "Omega Man," and all of the people who are not his followers are the zombies that hunt him each night.
Joe as Col. Kurtz in Apocalypse Now..."I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies."
Wait, there's more from Kurtz/Pilchesky - I may be on to something here:
"We must kill them. We must incinerate them. Pig after pig. Cow after cow. Village after village. Army after army."
"I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream. That's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight... razor... and surviving."
Oh dear God, it's him!!! I've found the character he's based on. "You're an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill."
"As for the charges against me, I am unconcerned. I am beyond their timid lying morality, and so I am beyond caring. "
Joe practically memorized Apocalypse now! Outed!!!
