Sorry, tripp park, I disagree with you.  For starters, Chris Barnes is a clown.  He is not funny in the least, nor should anyone seriously consider electing him to any political office.  Your ripping of the Jr. Council sounds eerily similar to many of the comments about Jr. Council that have been posted since the beginning at DD.

As far as someone of 16 not having a voice?  Are you serious?  We should be applauding these kids for having an interest in something as important as their city...as opposed to many teens in this city who are more interested in graffiti, drugs, and rap "music."  And how do you know that Mr. Miller does not pay taxes?  Anyone who has a job pays taxes, and many teens do have part-time jobs.

I think it is pretty disgusting what is going on with city Council.  It has become acceptible to be as disrespectuful and childish as you want when speaking.  Alot of it has to do with the cameras (I think all of it ) But now you see a young man who is to be commended for partaking in gov't, acting like the rest of the moonkies.  They have gone from being laughable and pityful to rude and just plain annoying.  they are a forgettable bunch that will fizzle out soon enough.I place some of the blame on council.  They have not been able to maintain any sort of order in those chambers.  Gov't is for the people but it is to br treated as a respectable forum to discuss and arbitrate matters concerning the citizens.  Not to push an agenda and see who can get in the best "Burn" during a 3 min diatribe.

Get rid of the cameras, elect members for theor professionalism and intelligence.  No more Janet Evens or anyone like her.  She stirs the **** up because she like the drama.  She is a dullard of the first degree and not respected.  Restore some type of civility to council and you will see results.

So if someone dares to disagree with the mayor, you automatically label him a monkey (or should I say a "moonkie")?  That's a pretty pathetic opinion you have there.

I agree with you on how out of control council meetings can be, and I agree with you about Evans.  But let's not lump anyone who says anything that may be counter to the mayor's agenda in with some malcontents.  This is a democracy, by the way, and I'd hate to see what this country would be like if we were not allowed to dissent from the political establishment.

first off I never said anything about being in conflict with the mayors opinions.  The"Moonkie" was done in jest.  I can spell monkey.

I think it is deplorable that city council is watched by people because they want fireworks, and they get them.  I can give a **** about the mayor and what he is doing.  What I am saying is you can see how when in an enviroment such as the one created by the "moonkies" (its a reference to Gertrude Stein)  how a young person can see this as normal behavior.  He is there to learn how Gov't opporates and unfortunatly he is in the worst place to be.  Surrounded by dolts.

You have to think that the average citizen with a legitimate beef is going to write or call a member of council. Only an attention seeker, newbie in town, or completely feawrless or clueless person would get up in front of that nuthouse and issue a legitimate concern.

Those goons would kill a legitimate citizen who didn't get up to grandstand on general prinicples. "What do you mean you want to discuss a nieghborhood concern without calling the mayor a name. You sure got a perty mouth boy...now squeel like a pig for me!"

The thought of being in the same room with those goons makes me want to shower.

We'd probably find ourselves banned from its message board.

And after we got banned they'd say things like "I know who you are and I know where you live" just to intimidate you.  Did you happen to catch that little subtle threat at the end of my bannning?

The old man must be beside himself that he can't file a lawsuit against 16 year old Doug Miller.

(Anticipated response from Joe Pilchesky: "Patience." with a 90% chance of bluster)

Alternate Pilchesky response:

"Once that kid turns 18 his ass is grass. Until then, I'm looking for his father."

You mean the one where two of his personalities talked at once?  One of them said "I'll be nice enough not to tell everyone your IP addess, ISP, browser or what your computer runs on.  Or, for that matter, your name and address since I know who you are and where you live," and then another personality immediately contradicts the first one by claiming that there's "no way for Darth, or anyone else to get anyone's IP address, browser or ISP...The authorities can get it if someone makes a threat against someone, or if someone sues another for libel."  Five days later, it still makes no sense at all.  And this putz thinks he stands a chance in court?  Against anyone?  HA!

We may talk in circles, as he claims, but we need 13 people to do it.  That asswipe can do it in the same post.

Don't forget Elmo strutting in and offering to meet either of them at the Turkey Hill while he goes on a Cheet-o and Yoo Hoo run, so they can "discuss" it.

I'll tell you what Paul, I may not be the toughest guy on the planet, and Lord knows I'll never claim to be. But I BEG Milo to extend me an invation to Buona's any day of the week. I'll be there and he'll know it's me. I'll be the guy who towers over 90% of the city and weighs more than his mother's last three trailer park lovers. Let's do it muppet.

He'll be picking stomboli out of his nether regions for the remainder of his miserable life. What a gutless punk. Tough guy, real tough guy. Barnes ( a real asswipe himself) has no idea who Elmo is, but Elmo's going to show up and "confront" him. It's a sucker punch deal at best.

My guess is Elmo shows up, gets one look at Barnes (or me) and realizes that 4 foot 7 and 300 pounds of Joe Pilchesky wannabee isn't going to cut it in the real world.

Back to cyberspace for that pant load.

Next.

My two cents on the Doug Miller speech during the last council meeting...

First, I do admire young Mr. Miller's spunk. The kid has huevos the size of church bells just to get up there and speak in the first place. He's also clearly a bright young man who cares about the city.

Second, I do think the Junior Council has some kind of larger, more official role to play during the meetings. However, I’d recommend fleshing that role out in private with Judy Gatelli and/or the other council members. Simply complaining at the podium may play well to the camera, but it doesn’t help in creating a more professional environment in Council Chambers. Yes, I agree that Mr. Miller delivered his message in an articulate manner, but let’s be honest in that the message came across as being somewhat whiny. This isn’t Mr. Miller’s fault…he simply doesn’t know any better.

So Doug…if you are reading this…I suggest that you try working behind the scenes a little more to advance your agenda. Low-key diplomacy can often be much more effective in achieving an end than grand public statements. Besides, there is enough grandstanding from the likes of Les and Lee (neither of whom are in your league in terms of intelligence and composure…even at the ripe old age of 16).

Lastly, I can’t end this without commenting on Chris Barnes. The guy is an entertainer, not a serious commentator, hence the placement on a “wacky morning zoo” radio show. Assume everything he says about everything is a gag/goof/radio stick and nothing more. If you don’t like it, do what I did…get Sirius Satellite Radio…or listen to NPR.  Taking what he does seriously is simply silly in my book.

This is a very busy thread ... I have read the entire thread and I have to say that I do agree with some of what has been said about Mr. Miller ... but come on guys ... he is a child ... although I see this child doing something with his life ... hell he is a future council candidate or mayoral candidate ... if he learns well then he will do well ... if not ... we will be screwed.

We have to remember that this child and the others like him are our future leaders of Scranton and this could prove to be very good training for them ... it's a great learning tool for a future politician.  I think that rather than pick on young Douglas and the rest of the council that we should look at the good things that these young people have done and are doing and will do in the future for our city.  Lets not pick on them ... and hell what is wrong with them asking their questions in the very beginning of the meeting before any other business is conducted ... let them speak ... I remember when they did speak before everyone else ... they stood up and let the council know what was going on in their schools ... what the concerns of the students were ... and then maybe asked a few questions.  Now we never really hear what they are doing ... I enjoy the fact that they are there learning ... and helping with things that help beautify the city ... this is a great opportunity for us to instill in the kids a sense of civic pride.

As far as Chris Barnes is concerned ... I listen to the "Council Wars" every day ... I think it's a riot ... it's funny ... but do I take him seriously ... I don't think so ... as Ag stated ... this is something that has been put together by an entertainer ... try not to take it so seriously ... and the only reason this started was the fact that Les Spindler called the guy a "clown, a washed up comedian" ... so you can thank Les Spindler for this new segment on the Chris Barnes show.
I'm not going to ramble on and on.

Art must REALLY be Rube Lomax ...

Dammit this is the first time in weeks that I haven't had a chance to record the Janet Evans Variety Show before I left the house Thursday evening - it figure this would be the night there would be something I missed - someone clue me in before I head across the hall and read their version of what happened
