Several months ago, when I was still a poster at DD, I took a jab at Janet Evans missing so many council meetings. I mentioned she missed meetings taking care of her mother, and then missed more meetings while she was in mourning, and perhaps she was not capable of continuing to serve on council. Of course, the Janet fans went crazy, and spoke of her "dedicated public service." Yeah. Pilchesky removed my post, and then sent me a private message warning that my insolence wouldn't be tolerated. He threatened to ban me, and warned me that the rule was "hands off Janet and any reference to Janet's mother."
I had just lost my own mother, and told Pilchesky not everyone had the luxury of taking four weeks off work to mourn. I guess he didn't like that.
The bottom line, Saint Janet's halo has tarnished a bit. As the years went by, it was obvious that Evans didn't really do the bidding of her loyal constiuents, but stuck to her own agenda and made Doherty out as the villian. And suddenly, the woman who was at loggerheads with Chris Doherty for years gushed like a schoolgirl when he showed up at council to ask for a 22% tax hike.
If she is too infirm to drag her "not a dumb blonde" head to Council chambers every Thursday, she should hang up her crown. The City of Scranton is circling the rim of the toilet bowl, and neither Evans, nor Doherty, nor anyone else I can think of has done anything substantial to stop it from going down the drain. Good luck to Courtright, or Randol, and whoever inherits the mess. The extra ten grand in salary won't even pay the bill for the Zantac and Xanax they'll need to do the job.....
Funny how she did nothing but cut Judy Gatelli down whenever she missed a meeting ... saying Judy should give back her pay ... do you think Janet is offering to give back her pay? I don't think so ...

He has a major thing for Janet Evans. Seriously, he must. Her family is as intrenched with political jobs as any other around here. She probably has a worse attendance record that Judy Gatelli. She has has managed the fete of actually getting Scranton further into the hole via the SPA debacle. Yet Joe continues to sing her praises and defend her like a love-struck Jr high school boy.
(said in the voice of Casey Kasem) Joe Pilchesky, here's your long distanced dedication:

Of course the SPA needed to be de-coupled from the city...that's not the point. Scranton has no more business running parking garages than it does selling hotdogs at lunch. The issue is the way that it happened. Boyd and Janet took this on like it was some other kind of slick way to stick it to the Mayor, not something the city needed to do from a debt management perspective. Because this de-coupling wasn't done in a controlled manner, the only one left smiling will be Mike Washo.

The SPA "debacle" needed to happen before it borrowed its way into an even more massive fiscal calamity. The rest of the queen's tenure was admittedly quite underwhelming and bordered on political malpractice. I don't like this "missing meetings" thing either. I think she has been absent more than she has attended in the past six months, and that would have caused the Legion of Doom to go into apoplectic fits had it been Judy Gatelli or Bob McGoff. At least it is clear now she isn't running again.
As someone who parks daily at one of the SPA garages, let me just say that the 'quality' of the garages have run even further into the ground since Central took over. Washington Ave. is still a literal $hithole with vagrants sleeping in the stairwells and using them as a bathroom. The Medallion garage, even though it's newer, you'd think it would be cleaner and more well-kept ... not so much.
I was fortunate enough to snag the ear of Mike Washo one day to voice my complaints, but who knows if they've fallen on deaf ears.
